Thanks for this new thread. I, too, like the feet of men of colour, as well as the South Asians.

I like all shades, as long as I find the feet attractive. Would love to be in the guy's position in the "Whazzzup" shot! They're a nice shape & look BIG, GRRR!

I'm so glad you asked that question! I actually stumbled onto an article a few weeks ago on that website Nicole Bitchie and that had a whole thing about why most black men where white socks with sandals or flat out refuse to show their feet.

    This is the article:

You hear guys get clowned about it in rap songs. Even one of the greatest rappers of our generation, Jay-Z, came under a lyrical attack for having a “lame” sense of fashion and committing one of urban cultures biggest “no-no’s”. What offense you ask? He wore a pair of sandals sans socks. The unspoken rules are defined as the following: Black men generally do not wear sandals BUT if they absolutely HAVE to wear sandals then they must be accompanied with a crispy pair of white socks. If worn in any other way it leads the public to see him as being soft, weak or the ultimate offense in urban culture, GAY.

No one in urban culture wants to be labeled as any of the three so the usual response is to avoid wearing sandals of any kind. If you are a Black man and you are in a mall and you pass a store that sells sandals, especially for men your a**better walk…No run in the other direction. This would explain why many Black men limit their footwear to sneakers, Gators, and Timberland Boots.

This same “to wear or not to wear sandals” crisis carries no weight among White men. They don’t care about killing their “swag” or looking less “gangsta” by wearing sandals, flip flops, thong flip flops or any other men’s footwear. All without socks! Rocking their bare feet, toes and all without a second thought. They wear whatever the hell feels comfortable to them and their day goes on. A Black man who committed the same act in the wrong neighborhood would be a spectacle.

I like to refer to this fashion anomaly as being a result of “cultural separatism”. This peculiarity occurs when it is acceptable for one culture or race of people to do something but it is seen as unacceptable for another race/culture of people. In regards to the urban culture, I have literally heard women question a man’s sexuality based on him wearing sandals improperly. “How dare he wear those Nike sandals and NOT put on a pair of white socks. He should know better. He has his feet all out. He must be gay”. She then turns her nose up in disgust at the thought of his toes. Ladies how many of you have said some variation of that statement in a conversation with one of your girlfriends? Raise your hands? Don’t try to be embarrassed now for your immaturity. My hand is raised.

Yes it may be immature but even I am a victim of this generalization. I too have been sucked into this particular form of cultural separatism. I can admit that it is immature on my part and I can also admit that sadly, I don’t care about how immature it makes me seem. When I see a Black guy wearing sandals without white socks on it can be a turn off for me and it makes me think of him in a feminine way. I want to tell him to put his feet away…Immediately. I then want to ask him whether he got the memo or not? I don’t assume that he is gay but rather that he may be soft or sweet. Similar to a sugar cookie.

Where did this Black men in sandals only if socks are included style come from? Some blame it on the West Coast for its origin. Rappers like Ice Cube were notoriously known for rocking this style in the 90’s and on. The style then seemed to transfer over to Black men from different regions. Always staying in line with the sock and sandal approach. To wear your bare feet in sandals was a reputation killer.

The bigger question is when was it decided that it was unacceptable in the urban culture for men, Black men in particular to only wear sandals with socks and why? I have a theory. It goes like this: Sandals are usually seen as a female fashion item. Women get pedicures and buy pretty sandals so that we can show our feet. Showing your feet in public is a feminine act because most women generally are expected to take better care of their feet than men do. So, from the beginning the assumption in urban culture is that sandals are a feminine item of clothing. In turn showing your feet is also a feminine move. Therefore, in order for any man to feel comfortable in a pair of sandals in public he must keep them covered at all costs. It does not matter how often he gets a pedicure. This is when the pearly white pair of socks comes in. Most male celebrities who are engrained in the urban culture have adapted to this unspoken rule of fashion without question. Their machismo would not let them have it any other way.

The question now is whether we are ready to make this particular fashion taboo a thing of urban culture’s past? Are you ready? I don’t think I am.

I just finished reading the articla above.

Straight men in general are so screwed. It's a shame they allow themselves to be so subject to what women think. The whole "rationale" behind this particular subject is stupid beyond words.

I've always been VERY glad that I am gay.

I am really enjoying this thread. Thanks guys for posting all these awesome pictures of some Really hot black guys and their bare feet.
