The short story by Annie Proulx became a powerful movie directed by Ang Lee. Many of us were disappointed when it failed to win an Academy Award as Best Picture, but the film version was a powerful artistic achievement. "Brokeback Mountain" has been turned into an opera by the American composer Charles Wuorinen, a gifted Pulitzer Prize winning musician who lives with his longtime partner Howard in New York. The world premiere will take place at the Teatro Real in Madrid on January 28. Wuorinen discusses his work on YouTube. I hope there will be clips on YouTube of the first performances.
