Default Where is THIS PLACE ??

Hey -- thanks for posting. But I am more interested in this awesome-looking river !! I live in the San Francisco area, but travel (fly) easily and frequently for work and pleasure. I am in Houston, right as I am writing this. I would sure love to visit this beautiful river/creek and take a friend or two with me !! Thanks !

    Default Two Questions for wncMTNfoot:

    1. What is that ankle-cuff with a cord that many of your surfers at the beach were wearing? What is it for?
    2. Why is it that sliding on Sliding Rock doesn't scrape the skin of the guys sliding? Is it that the rock is so smooth from the water erosion that one can slide across it without it scraping, or is it that the water "cushions" the skin--or yet some other reason?

Splendid views of North Carolina feet, as always! I love when you post your charming photos and "flickr" finds (not to mention when I get to see images of you, who seem to get sexier and sexier as you get older)!

The cord and cuffs on the surfboards are to keep them easy to reach if/when you wipe out on a wave. The cord keeps you loosely attached to the board.

Rodney, these are awesome pictures...All these guys are cute in their own way and they all have hot as hell feet, but my favorite is the stud with the really longer hair and the beard in the first page shots with the rainbow colors on his trunks.... He looks like all the guys did back in the 70s.

Awesome as always. But when will someone invent a zoom that doesn't make feet look like size 5's?

If you were to fly into the Asheville Airport (AVL), you would simply turn right out of the airport. Travel about 15 miles toward Pisgah Forest, then turn right on US-276 toward the "Blue Ridge Parkway." It's about a 7 mile drive on the left. You pass a beautiful waterfall on the way. Sliding Rock is 3 miles past the "Looking Glass" falls. During the day until 5:30pm there is a $1 parking fee and there is lifeguards and rangers there. The lifeguard's rules and regulations are too strict for me, so if I like to go down after 5:30pm when they leave. That way I can belly flop down instead of just sliding on my butt! ) The facilities close when they go home, but the rock is accessible as well as the parking.

If you come here and want to look me up I wouldn't mind taking time off to show you around. There are many other cool places like this to go that is just slightly off the path that you might miss during your travel. I'll drop you a message on you Flickr mail box.

Well Ropie is definitely correct about the tether cord. Keeps the surfer from loosing the board.

Sliding Rock is covered with Algae making it slick. The rock is rough on swim trunks. I've worn holes in cut off blue jeans before. On occasion there is a skin abrasion, but it is rare due to so much algae. Many people have fallen to their deaths around our waterfalls here by getting to close to the edge then slipping. Even at Sliding Rock it's better to sit down and then scoot over to the middle. People unaware of this have taken some pretty bad falls here. In my early 20's I've seen broken legs here and one grandpa with a cracked skull.
But with a few precautions and awareness this place is allot of fun!

And the water is 55 degrees. The coldest water I know of here is about 48. Brrrrrr!!!
